Centre takes charge of Manipur by invoking Article 355; 54 dead in violence

The Centre has taken charge of the security of strife-torn Manipur by invoking Article 355. Article 355 empowers the Centre to take all necessary steps to protect a state against internal disturbances and external aggression. Union Home Minister Amit Shah cancelled his Karnataka election programs so that he could closely monitor the Manipur situation.
