Death toll rises to 15 in shooting at Jewish event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach; one suspect shot dead
The death toll in the horrific attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration has risen to 15. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attack as an act of antisemitic terrorism.
Authorities said the attackers were a father and son. The 50-year-old father was shot dead by police, while his 24-year-old son was wounded and is being treated in hospital. Police said one gunman was known to security services, but there was no indication of a planned attack.
Victims ranged in age from 10 to 87, with at least 42 others hospitalised, several in critical condition. Australian authorities have not publicly named the victims or suspects. World leaders condemned the attack.
