Rain lashes city, brings temperatures down 

Monsoon rains lashed Vijayawada on Friday. Rural parts of Krishna district received up to 3 cm rainfall. The urban areas of Vijayawada received good rainfall since Thursday night. 

VIJAYAWADA: Monsoon rains lashed Vijayawada on Friday. Rural parts of Krishna district received up to 3 cm rainfall. The urban areas of Vijayawada received good rainfall since Thursday night. 
The fresh spell of rains brought relief to city residents who have been reeling under the summer-like temperatures prevalent for the last one week.Krishna district received an excess rainfall of 3.1 per cent till date in this monsoon season so far. Meanwhile, according to weathermen, the rains will continue in the coming 3-4 days. 


The district is expected to receive moderate rainfall in the coming three-four days. On Friday, places like Vellanki, Veerullapadu, Lingala, Jaggayyapeta and  Vijayawada rural received a rainfall of 3.4 cm. The urban areas in Vijayawada city received 2-3 cm rainfall.Earlier this week, the district had experienced hot climatic conditions with temperatures going upto 37 degree Celsius.
Due to the lack of low pressure areas in the sea and low circulation of monsoon winds, the rains gave a miss to the district in the last week. 


According to IMD, the recent circulation from Karnataka region led to the fresh spell of rains. 
Speaking about weather trends in the State,Y K Reddy, senior scientist, weather forecasting at IMD, said, “The entire coastal region will receive moderate rain throughout the week. Isolated places and rural areas will receive more rainfall than that of urban areas. On an average, 5 cm of rainfall is expected, which might go up to 7 cm.”
