COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on India and Sri Lanka having agreed to work on a holistic memorandum of understanding on fishing in the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar areas on Monday, following some “misinterpretations” on the Joint Statement issued by both the delegations after the fourth meeting of the Joint Working Group on Fishing here on January 13 and 14.
A notable aspect of the statement was India’s agreeing to ensure that its fishermen eschewed non-destructive methods of fishing.
