COLOMBO:  Sri Lanka on Thursday categorically rejected Channel 4’s new video on war crimes saying that its contents were “baseless and unacceptable.”

The Ministry of Defence, in a release, said that the video aired on March 14 was meant to “defame” Sri Lanka when the UNHRC was in session in Geneva. The Ministry said it rejected all allegations of rights violations during the 2006-2009 war and declared that it could prove with valid evidence that it was the LLTE which had committed gross violations of human rights over the past three decades.  It pointed out that Channel 4 had the opportunity to present the information it had to the LLRC officially, and take action internationally against the alleged violations. But instead of doing that, it opted to air the video. This was only because it was unable to prove the authenticity of the footage if confronted by a responsible body.
