Rajpaksa Orders Indian Fishermen’s Release

COLOMBO : Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa through twitter announced that he is  ordering the release of all Indian fishermen in Lankan custody on Wednesday to mark the Indian Independence Day on August 15.

There are currently 94 fishermen from Tamil Nadu in Lankan custody on charges of of poaching. The Lankans are also in possession of 63 boats seized from the intruding fishermen. Rajapaksa’s tweet is silent on the boats. Since June, Lanka has been releasing fishermen but retaining their boats.
