WASHINGTON: Nine people on board a sightseeing plane were killed when it crashed into a cliff in the Alaska, a media report said on Friday.

A pilot and eight passengers from a cruise ship were aboard the plane when it crashed into a mountainous cliff in Ketchikan city on Thursday, CNN reported.

The plane, operated by Alaska's premier flight tour company, Promech Air, had taken off on a tour of the Misty Fiords National Monument, accessible only by floatplanes or boats.

A private helicopter pilot saw the plane's wreckage, a few hours after the plane was reported missing.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
