Pakistan completes construction of Afghan border gate

According to the security officials, the gate will promote peace not only in Pakistan but also in Afghanistan.

ISLAMABAD: The construction of a gate complex at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Torkham was completed on Tuesday.

Construction on the Bab-e-Pakistan gate complex, which began on June 12 this year and led to escalation of tension between the two countries -- with both sides trading fire and causing casualties on the border, has been completed, the News International reported.

Security officials at the gate will check the movement of illegal people to and from Pakistan, the report said.

One of the gates will be used to enter into Pakistan, while the other will allow people to leave the country.

According to the security officials, the gate will promote peace not only in Pakistan but also in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has blamed a number of terror attacks in the country on Afghan nationals who crossed the border illegally.

Pakistan has always maintained that the Bab-e-Pakistan gate was within Pakistani side of the border and hence it was Islamabad's prerogative to construct it.
