The FBI has arrested the wife of Omar Mateen, who carried out a mass shooting in an Orlando, Florida, nightclub in June 2016, media reports said on Monday.

The shooting at the gay nightclub Pulse that killed 49 people was one of the deadliest in recent times in the US.

The woman Noor Salman was arrested at her home outside of San Francisco, the New York Times reported. The newspaper said Salman was charged with obstruction in the case. ABC News quoted her lawyer saying she was arrested for aiding and abetting.

Salman told the New York Times in November that she had been "unaware of everything" that her husband Omar Mateen was going to do on the day of the shooting. Mateen was killed in a police shootout after he carried out the massacre.

She is expected to appear in federal court on Tuesday for a first appearance, ABC News said, and could be extradited to Tampa, Florida, where she was indicted.
