Madhya Pradesh Minister Surya Prakash Meena decides to not contest elections, missive goes viral on social media

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Horticulture and Food Processing (Independent Charge) Surya Prakash Meena has announced his decision to not contest coming state assembly elections.

In a missive addressed to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Mr Meena has expressed his desire to not contest the polls.

A copy of the letter has gone viral on social media.

"I have voluntarily decided to not contest assembly elections. I intend to work for the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party candidates in all five constituencies in Vidisha," he said while talking to media persons in Vidisha district headquarters.

Mr Meena denied that he wrote the letter unde r pressure.

Responding to a query that he had come to the state BJP office in Bhopal recently along with his supporters seeking party ticket, he said that he had come along with workers of Kurwai assembly constituency.

Mr Meena was elected to the state assembly from Shamshabad seat in 2008 and 2013.

He was appointed as the minister of state during expansion of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet.
