In a bid to be free and inspirational, the Bohemian style of dressing emerged as a strong influence in the 1960s and with updated versions in the 1970s. The term boho has, over the last few years, come to be associated with free-spiritedness in a way that truly captures the essence of eccentricity.

It was not long before stylists and designers began to leverage its potential. Today, there is no fashion show without bohemian streaks. Most recently, new strides were made by Sitara as part of their new ethnic collection of garments, that makes Indian-Bohemian a design yearning. Since its arrival, Bohemian has been a non-conformist genre in any fashion period.

They are usually anti-fits that don’t follow the rigid rules of form and structure. In Sitara’s new range, a kurta can be worn as a dress or tunic. Layer it up with a muffler or a neck scarf, and you have an outfit for the winter. There is no rulebook for dressing.

With its genesis in France as a result of the French Revolution, the Bohemian idea as a counterculture has changed its form and shape since it came to surface first. Every part of the world has assimilated boho elements according to their cultural milieu keeping the idea of free fashion alive.

Sitara was created by mother-daughter duo Chandni and Ruchika. The idea was always to work on latest trends governing the industry but to also be a conscious entity in the fast-moving world. Slow fashion is a philosophy that they both follow in their attempt to pause and think about what they are creating and why. They’ve also worked on footwear, which again is distinctively Indian in aesthetic. Handmade jewellery and bags will be added to the portfolio soon.
