Pottering about in blue and white

From flowy maxis to ankle length capes to flared palazzos and short dresses, online womenswear brand AKS’ summery range is something you can wear around the year. But that’s not the only thing we like about it. Called the Blue Pottery collection, it has been inspired by Jaipur’s famous blue pottery and uses block printing on a range of fabrics—cotton, chanderi silk and wrinkled crepe—mainly in shades of white and blue.

“The blue pottery art of Jaipur offers a unique blend of Turkish and Persian crafts. And with the collection’s inspiration stemming from this famous art, the use of Persian motifs and Turkish patterns was inevitable. Geometric designs were opted for to infuse the lively and contemporary vibe pleasing the modern woman and suiting every occasion,” says Nidhi Yadav, founder and creative head of AKS.
The collection is generating a lot of interest among working women and college-going girls and the demand for these pieces is constantly growing. The USP remains its affordability, style and comfort to suit contemporary fashion tastes.

AKS was founded by Yadav, a computer science graduate, who worked for a leading IT company before switching to a career in fashion. While pursuing her Masters in fashion studies from Italy, Yadav was greatly influenced by the success stories of leading international apparel brands, and that kindled a desire to explore the untapped business opportunities in the e-commerce sector.

In 2014, she launched AKS which translated into a reflection of her dreams and aspirations. Yadav started it with a seed capital of `3.5 lakh in a small warehouse of less than a thousand units. And this, with the added responsibility of handling a seven-month-old baby.

Today, AKS serves around one lakh customers per month, and is a favourite among women in the age group of 18 to 35.
