Regular Skin Care Fights Constant Ageing

Aesthetic physician Rashmi Shetty on her book and home remedies for a supple skin

People come to cosmetologist Rashmi Shetty as patients, but by the end of it they turn friends. Reason? Rashmi helps people to love their skin and care for it in every walk of life, rather than jumping on to expensive treatments and invasive procedures.

Now, she takes a leap and goes beyond her clinics to reach out to people, and help them keep their skin young holistically with her first book Age Erase. From sharing quick-fix home remedies to expert advice from dietician and fitness experts, the book offers a solution to all skin worries. It also shares recipes for having a beautiful skin. Her book has received immense support from her celebrity clients like Rana Daggubatti, Nargis Fakhri, Nagarjuna, Aditi Rao Hyadri, Tiger Shroff, Shilpa Shetty, Sania Mirza, Lakshmi Manchu, Yami Gautam, Tamana Bhatia, Maria Goretti and Adah Sharma. “It’s overwhelming to see so many people appreciate my work and support my first book. One cannot reverse the ageing process, but can surely slow the process. I have mentioned in my book a few qualities of fruits, which when applied on the face as a mask, smoothen and brighten the skin and also help in removing sun tan. Eating healthy is an essential mantra to a supple skin,” says the celebrity aesthetic physician.

Being an aesthetic specialist and an anti-ageing expert, she explains the what, why and how of ageing and the reason why these changes occur. The book is divided into two sections. The first gives an insight into the skin problems. It mentions all the details—how to care for skin during festivals, travelling and seasonal changes. The second section is called Cheat the Clock. “In this section, I have simplified the term anti-ageing, and explained kitchen care remedies besides sharing simple views on what is available in aesthetics today,” she adds.

Bringing beautiful skin back needn’t be expensive, assures Rashmi. “The moment we are born, the body clock starts ticking and we are ageing everyday. But, we can slow the process by having a peaceful sleep as that is one time that helps repair skin. Also, following a few exercises, eating healthy will make look fresh and healthy,” she says.

She was awarded the ‘Best Non-Surgical Aesthetic Medicine Expert’ at the Pharmaceutical Leadership Awards for consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. Her claim to anti-aging fame is that for more than 30 years. She believes that anyone who eats a healthy diet, gets proper sleep, exercises, and leads a stress-free life, age differently than an average Joe. “Someone who has a health and peaceful lifestyle is most likely to age gracefully and that’s what I have explained in my book,” says the anti-ageing expert.

While our desire to defy age and improve our appearance will not change, the methods of doing this will change. Rashmi says the next big thing is to optimise skin’s rejuvenating capacity, while reducing the treatment time. “Complicated nose jobs, which earlier required surgeries, can be done with the push of an injection,” she adds.

Surgery cannot permanently fight ageing; however, taking care of the skin and using the right products can slow down its effects. “First, it is very important to know your skin type, because some products might work well on others, but may not have the same effect on you. Technology and science have advanced and we have the best of anti-ageing products, to slow down the age-clock,” she says.
