New Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam faces first revolt within party

AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudanan and Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar openly urged VK Sasikala to take over as the CM and party's chief secretary.

CHENNAI: A fortnight after taking over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the third time, O Panneerselvam is facing the first revolt against him in the AIADMK.

AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudanan and Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar came out in open appealing to VK Sasikala to take over as the Chief Minister as well as the general secretary of the party.

The office bearers of the J Jayalalithaa Peravai in all party districts in Tamil Nadu have adopted a resolution appealing to Sasikala to take over as the Chief Minister of the State as well as the general secretary of the party.  Udayakumar, secretary of the Peravai and others placed the resolution before the memorial of Jayalalithaa and offered prayers. Later, they left for Poes Garden to hand over the resolution to Sasikala.

Talking to mediapersons, Udayakumar said Sasikala was doing public service silently through Puratchi Thalaivi Charitable Trust for the past many years.  “It is the wish of the 1.5 crore cadre of the AIADMK that Sasikala should continue her services through government also.  To continue implementing the humanitarian schemes initiated by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the coming days, Sasikala alone can do that.  She is the only hope for us.  She should contest the by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency.”

AIADMK presidium chairman Madhusudanan who was also present on the occasion, said “Sasikala had protected Jayalalithaa for many decades and no one else is competent enough to lead the party.”
