Death of Gurukul school girl student in Kothagudem sparks protest

The death of a girl student in Gurukul school in Kothagudem on Wednesday, allegedly due to  negligence of the hostel warden in providing medical treatment, triggered protests by her family.

KOTHAGUDEM: The death of a girl student in Gurukul school in Kothagudem on Wednesday, allegedly due to the negligence of the hostel warden in providing medical treatment, triggered protests by her family.
Tension prevailed at the Kothagudem collectorate on Thursday when the parents staged a dharna with the body of the 10-year student of SC Gurukul residential school at Gandugulapalli village, who allegedly died of fever at MGM Hospital in  Warangal.

The girl, Cherukupalli Nagendra of Dhaniyalagudem village, was a Class 5 student of  SC Gurukul school. She had been suffering from fever for 15 days. The principal informed her parents about her illness and when they requested the former to allow them to take her home, the principal refused. And when the child’s condition deteriorated, the principal asked the parents to take her home.

The parents took her to MGM Hospital in Warangal but she died on Wednesday  while undergoing treatment. The girl’s parents reached the district collector’s office on Thursday and staged a dharna demanding action against the school principal and hostel warden. Later,  the residential school officials held discussions with parents.  

The officials agreed to suspend the warden, provide outsourcing job to one member of the family, `10,000 in cash for conducting the girl’s last rites, send proposals for award of a `25 lakh compensation,  a 3-acre land and a double bedroom house to the family.

Mahbubnagar: girl students of Maddur Social Welfare Residential chool staged a protest demanding removal of the school principal Rajani for allegedly making them work in kitchen and clean toilets.
