BENGALURU: The body of Pushpa (22), who was washed away in a drain outside their house in Kurubarahalli on Friday along with her mother, has been found at an open drain in Kumbalgodu on Sunday. Fire officials fished it out and later handed it over to BBMP authorities.

A senior fire officer said that three teams who undertook the search operation found the body of Pushpa at 11.30 am about 15 km away from where she fell. BBMP engineers rushed to the spot after the body was traced. “They took the body to Victoria Hospital for postmortem and later the body was cremated at Sumanahalli on Magadi Road. Efforts are on to trace her mother Lingamma and a team from the State Disaster Response Force has joined us from the last three days,” he said.

Pushpa’s body was kept near her residence for some time before the cremation. Jayamma, one of the neighbours of the family, said she actually saw Pushpa and her mother Lingamma crying for help as they were being washed away in the water. “I remember Pushpa was wearing a red chudidar, and I felt helpless as I saw both of them being washed away.” As reported by Express on Sunday, Jayamma did managed to save as many as eight children from drowning.

Pushpa, who was working in a garment factory had quit her job two months ago. She was taking care of her parents Lingamma and Shivadoddaiah. Her two siblings had gone for work when the mishap occurred
