NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced that he would observe a day-long fast in solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the three newly-enacted farm laws.

Supporting the demand of revocation of the laws, Kejriwal urged his party supporters and volunteers to participate in the hunger strike called by the farmers staying put at Delhi-Haryana border for about two weeks.

“The farmers have appealed to the people to fast for a day in their support. I will fast tomorrow in the support of our farmers. I want to appeal to the supporters and volunteers of AAP to fast also their support. I know lakhs of people who are with the farmers. They cannot reach the borders because of their day-to-day schedule but are supporting them. I want to appeal to all those people to fast to support the demands of the farmers,” said the CM.

The farmer unions have announced a hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday at Singhu border, where farmers are protesting since November 26. Attacking the BJP, Kejriwal said that the party in power was mistaking the farmers’ movement as a small movement.

“Every person in this country understands the intricacies of these laws and wants these laws to be repealed. The Centre should put an end to their ego, scrap these farm laws and accept the demands of the farmers.”

“A few central government ministers and BJP leaders are calling the farmers anti-nationals, they are terming this a movement of anti-nationals. The thousands of ex-servicemen and ex-armymen, who fought for the country by risking their own lives, are sitting with the farmers on the borders,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Gopal Rai said the party workers would join the day-long protest being held at AAP’s headquarters on Monday.

“The AAP has decided that its workers will fast to protest against the farm laws at the party headquarters in ITO area. The MLAs and councillors will lead the group fasting from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm,” said the minister.
