NEW DELHI: Not an act of personal enmity, but one committed from a sudden fit of rage. An 18-year-old gangster overturned the fate of a family when he fired headshots killing one. On Thursday, a 36-year-old man, who worked as a senior manager at Amazon, was shot dead while his uncle narrowly escaped death but is still being treated at a hospital for a gunshot injury on his head.

Harpreet Gill and his uncle Govind Singh were travelling on their motorcycle near Bhajanpura when the gangster, Mohammad Sameer alias Maya, opened fire at the two, aiming at their heads. The two were on a scooter when the gangster intercepted them in a motorcycle and opened fire at them, DCP (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.

The incident was revealed after a sustained interrogation of the accused duo, Sameer and his associate Bilal Gani. They along with Sohail (23), Mohammad Junaid (23) and Adnan (19) were partying in North Ghonda, Bhajanpura. Around 10:30 p.m., they decided to step out for a ride on two scooters. They stopped at a few places and finally started riding on a narrow lane.

“The victims Gill and Singh, riding in the same lane, wanted the accused to stop and give them away. Sameer Gani and the others got aggressive and Junaid slapped Singh. When Gill and Singh tried to get down to speak with the accused, Sameer opened fire at the two, aiming at their heads,” the DCP said, adding efforts are on to nab the other accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said the victim duo were on a motorcycle when the assailants on a scooter and a motorcycle intercepted them and opened fire at them. “It was just a case of road rage,” Joy Tirkey said.
