Jiiva, Trisha Create the Feel-good Factor

Director Ahmad, whose first film Vamanan was a suspense thriller, this time handles a breezy soft rom-com. It centres on love, friendship and family bonding. It’s about a guy, whose childhood experiences have made him averse to women and estranged him from his father. How his later experiences remove the misconceptions, and restore peace, happiness and harmony in his relationships form the core of the plot.

It’s a fine performance from Jiiva who essays the stubborn-to-a-fault Gowtham. Gowtham runs an ad agency with his two childhood buddies Shri and Baby (Vinay and Santhanam). The trio take a vow that they would be bachelors for life and never marry. But when his friends break the pact, Gowtham is unforgiving and goes into a shell. The three actors gel well together, sharing good screen chemistry. Directors would take a second look at Vinay, who is cool and easy going here. Priya (Trisha), sent by a client to assist them, thaws towards Gowtham. But stubborn and egoistic to acknowledge his finer feelings for her, he alienates her too from him. As the soft sensitive Priya, Trisha is graceful. Elegantly dressed, her’s is dignified and mature performance. Santhanam with his wisecracks and spontaneous one-liners, keeps the proceedings lively. Except for Priya, the female characters like the wives of Shri and Baby, are shoddily treated in the plot. Andrea’s character as Sonia, the top model who comes to act in Gowtham’s ad, is weakly fleshed out. Sonia vows to teach a lesson to Gowtham. But after throwing a tantrum at the shooting spot, she is unceremoniously thrown out of the ad and the plot.

The second half shifts to Switzerland, where Gowtham, Priya and team go for an ad shoot, where the inevitable happens. Harris Jairaj’s song numbers are pleasant and picturised aesthetically. Mathi’s camera provides some rich attractive visuals, specially the scenes shot with attractive backdrops in Switzerland.

Neatly packed, the director has kept his narration smooth and maintained a steady pace throughout. A feel-good entertainer, Endrendrum..... leaves you with a warm feeling.
