Intricately carved in brown, as they stand tall amidst hordes of passers by, sculptures of Ambarish, Rajinikanth, Dr Rajkumar, Dr Vishnuvardhan, Amitabh Bachchan and Raj Kapoor bring smiles to several faces visiting Garuda Mall. With the city gearing up for the fifth edition of Bangalore International Film Festival which starts today, preparations are at full swing in malls screening the films. Commemorating 100 years of Indian cinema, BIFFES has selected a unique collection of films that truly reflect the essence of cinema in India apart from retaining the culture of the country. Keeping this in mind, large scale outdoor sculptures have been installed at Garuda Mall celebrating the film festival. While Fame Lido Mall will put up the arch and registration counter today, the Information Department is already bustling with activity. Though registration procedures have already begun at several places, the organisers are expecting a huge turn out in the next few days. People were seen enquiring about the festival at almost all the venues. So far, around 1200 people have registered for BIFFES 2012. Also, apart from the mall security, 20 special guards have been hired for seven days.
