Singham Returns Portrays Real Mumbai

Over the years, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have together given us memorable and path-breaking high octane action sequences. They just up the ante each time, with every movie. Be it Ajay standing atop two cars in the entry sequence for Golmaal Returns or doing the complicated scissor stunt in the first instalment of Singham, the duo has always managed to execute sequences that audiences love. And this time with Singham Returns, we hear that the two have taken the stunts on an altogether new level.

Right now, Ajay along with Kareena Kapoor and team is busy travelling the length and breadth of the country to promote the film.

In the city recently, the star talked about Singham Returns. He said that the film is even bigger and meaner this time and he will be seen fighting against the most current and deep-rooted issues the aam aadmi faces today, on a new edgier and thrilling platform.

"Singham Returns has come about mainly on public demand. A lot of people with whom we interacted with wanted us to come up with another Singham film. The script and making of the film entailed a lot of responsibility. And so we took our time, said Ajay, who also clarified that Singham Returns is an original script, not a remake of the South Indian film.

"Earlier, Singham in Hindi fought against the corruption in the country. This time, the issue is black money, which is very current and the audiences will be able to connect more with it," he added.

Kareena Kapoor, who plays Ajay's love-interest in the film says, "After so many films we've done together, we have become good friends, and had great fun in Singham Returns too. Everyone knows that the mostly silent man otherwise is a big prankster. However, he is been quite this time on the sets. I guess the stunts has taken a toll on him," she says with a laugh.

Ajay added, "Everybody grows up sometime. Likewise, even Kareena I think, has become more mature sensible after getting married."

Kareena finds in Rohit Shetty the most hard working and a dedicated director. "I worked with him for the Golmaal series and now for Singham Returns. I have worked with so many directors but the kind of energy he puts in, be it for action or comedy, should be appreciated. Such long hours of work, and he does it without a complaint," she said.

In addition to his signature set of stunts, Ajay has sequences with guns too in this one. The scene in which he hits door of a jeep has only sparked people's curiosity. So do these expensive sequences showcase a brand of creativity?

"Yes, it is creative and we have gone according to script. But it doesn't mean they are all visually pleasing. This time, we have kept the actions more real, and in accordance with the demand," he explained.

Ajay as Bajirao Singham, a beloved cop, hits theatres on Independence Day. "The release date is apt. The film brings independence to the society and to people fighting for their rights. Any which way you look at it, there is a connect," he added.

DCP Bajirao Singham, stationed in Mumbai, takes on the challenges fighting the goons of city, and we hear that these scenes have been captured like never before. He elaborated, "It has been shot in a lot of places in Mumbai, the more sensitive areas. All thanks to co-operation from the government, local officials and cops who helped us to shoot in the places which haven't been covered so far. After a long time, you will see the real Mumbai is through this."

Kareena, in the film, has obsession with selfies. Is this true in real life too? "Well, I do enjoy taking selfies, but I'm not so fond of putting up my pictures on social media. I usually take it for my friends and that also becomes a collection for my personal use. I am not the kind that updates pictures twitter regularly," Kareena says.

The film also stars Amole Gupte and Anupam Kher.
