DEHRADUN: The war of words between yoga guru Ramdev and actor-turned-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut shows no sign of abating, with the Patanjali founder taking a fresh, indirect swipe at the parliamentarian.
“I do not wish to comment on petty people. The entire country knows who Swami Ramdev is and what he has contributed to the nation,” Ramdev said when reporters in Haridwar on Sunday sought his response to Ranaut’s latest remarks. Ramdev, however, refused to comment further, indicating that he did not want to prolong the controversy.
The exchange began after Ranaut made her controversial “Generation Gutter” remark. Kangana Ranaut sparked backlash after using the term “Generation Gutter” to criticise student and youth protesters at Jantar Mantar during demonstrations linked to the NEET paper leak, though she later clarified she was not targeting all of Gen Z.
Criticising her statement, Ramdev described it as a “sign of a disturbed mind”. Ranaut subsequently hit back through an Instagram post, referring to controversies surrounding Ramdev and his Patanjali brand.
“At least I have never been reprimanded by the Supreme Court for false/fraud efficacy claims based on hard facts, not some gossip or assumptions,” the BJP MP wrote, in an apparent reference to court proceedings involving misleading advertisements linked to Patanjali products.
Without naming Ranaut, Ramdev later said that abusing Hindu ascetics had become “a new fashion”. “Insulting a sanyasi has become fashionable these days. Creating walls of division in society has also become a trend,” he said.
Ramdev added that people must speak up whenever any section of society faces injustice. “If farmers, young people, Brahmins, Dalits or any other community is being treated unjustly, people should come forward and raise their voice,” he said.
The latest controversy comes amid Ramdev’s increasingly outspoken comments on public issues. In his Independence Day address, he alleged widespread irregularities in the country and claimed that jobs were being “sold”. He also suggested that another mass agitation might be needed to address such concerns.
His comments had drawn a sarcastic response from former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Charan Singh, adding another layer to the public debate surrounding the yoga guru’s political interventions.
Neither Ramdev nor Ranaut has indicated whether they intend to draw a line under the dispute, which has continued through public statements and social media posts.
