Hop, shop to keep warm

Put on your bargaining hat and set off to Janpath Market, a stone’s throw away from Connaught Place. Beware of vendors who will outsmart you, stand your ground. The baseline rates have gone up slightly over the years, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t get anything at old prices. A good starting point is Rs 200-Rs 250 these days
Tip: Go in the morning to strike a better deal. Note the shop number for exchanges. Visit after 2 pm.
Time: 12 noon.
Address: Janpath Road, Janpath, Connaught Place

Rajouri Market

This is probably West Delhi’s favourite haunt for winter wear. From ankle length to crew, from plane ones to those with iconography, Rajouri market is a haven for colorful and kitchy socks. The shops are flooded with leg warmers, and woolen gloves too.
Tip: Best time to visit this market is during the weekdays. And since you’re there, go to Atul Chaat Bhandar for one of the best chaats in Delhi.
Time: 12 noon
Address: Ring Road, Block C, Sharda Puri,
Ramesh Nagar

Sarojini Market

While Sarojini Market is definitely cheaper than Janpath, the quality of winter wear is also different. Some of these look haggard but a quick wash later, they’ll be ready to impress. The market is good for boots too.
Tip: Shopkeepers have a separate stock inside. Ask for it up front, be ready to shell out a bit extra for these.
Time: 11.30 am onwards
Address: Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi

Lajpat Nagar

Though Lajpat Nagar is ideal for ethnic summer wear, shopkeepers here have caught on with winter garments too. Their sweaters are the best. Quality is good but the designs are functional. Price points are competitive and sweaters should start from `200. This market also has good options for men.
TIP: Give up your shyness and quote a price that may seem absurd.
Time: 12 noon
Address:  Central Market, Lajpat Nagar II, Lajpat Nagar

Kamla Nagar Market

This is one of the oldest markets in Delhi. The face of it has drastically changed over the years. There are far fewer street shops than before but still, the ones present will satiate your demand. It is a good place to pick cheap shawls. The designs are mostly conventional though.
TIP:  Don’t take your vehicle into the market. There are few public toilets so take a leak before you leave home.
Time: 12.30 pm
Address:  Block F, Kamla Nagar
