A Food Joint That Lives up to Its Bengaliness

With the taste that it leaves you with, at unbloated prices, Authentic Kolkata is really a place to check out.

How many options does one have if one wants to eat authentic Bengali food for the first time in Chennai?

Visit Bengal, maybe?

Not really. Authentic Kolkata is now open, in Anna Salai, for all those who crave some Bengali taste.

When you visit this place, unsure of what Bengali food tastes like and unsure what you eat actually tastes like it would in Kolkata, how will you judge it?

The Bengalis accompanying me did that for me.

The non-vegetarian thali at Authentic Kolkata consisted of rice, Macher Jhol (fish curry), chicken curry, shukto, egg curry, daal, pickle, amer chutney and aloo gobi sabzi (I have been told it's called phool kofir dalna.)

For someone trying out Bengali food for the first time, it was love at first taste.

So much so that it didn't take much time to devour the entire thing.

The look of my Bengali friend who accompanied me said it all. Needless to say, I became a fan of the food from the land of yellow taxis even before having been there. And a certain Bengali has found their favorite eating place in Chennai.

Priced at INR 140, the non-vegetarian thali was a real deal. The mach jhol and amer chutney were the favorites on the platter and the egg curry was a little too spicy.

For vegetarians, the vegetarian thali, priced at Rs 120, is a good bargain. Pure vegetarian taste in Bengali is sure to leave you satiated and smiling.

Your food can be followed by the choicest of desserts. Roshagulla, mishti doi, amer chutney and malpoa are some of the items to choose from.

With the taste that it leaves you with, at unbloated prices, Authentic Kolkata is really a place to check out. For all the food lovers and people craving Bengali food in Chennai, do not miss visiting it in Spencers Plaza, Phase 3 food court.
