Branching from a philosophy of a life of truth and meditation, the Siddhas who lived in Tamil Nadu have contributed a great deal to the health and fitness of people. The Way and View of the life of Siddhas, was a three-day conference on this philosophy for physical, mental and spiritual health was organised by the Sri Agathiyar Gnana Peetam of Nallar and Sathiyathin Sakthi Nilai Sangam of Bhavani at the Sathyabama University from December 26.

Over 90 papers were presented at the conference on various topics that included, Vipassana Meditation taught by the Buddha and the breathing techniques taught by the Siddhars, meditation on the Chakras, the mention about physical fitness and protecting the body and health by Tirumoolar, the role of Siddhas in the field of medicine, Varma medicine, the knowledge of alchemy among the Siddhas and Vaasi Yoga of the Siddhas breathing techniques.

The papers were in Tamil and English – the Siddha way of treating diabetes with Vilva leaves, was one topic.

In her paper on Sunlight – the future medicine, Narayani from the Suryayog Foundation, explained how Suryayog was an advanced form of Yoga that helped a common individual to merge with nature. “The masters have been staying in the caves and in jungles for the past innumerable years without any food. They derive the energy from the Sun. The photons from the solar system can help us to smoothen and enlighten us and it can also help us to balance our body, prana (energy) and soul, she said.

She points out that when we expose ourselves consciously to the rising sun, the seeds of health and wisdom that is in the human body will begin to sprout.

On the second day, Suryaji, the founder of Surya Yog addressed the gathering with a film on how the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012 on how the Sun’s energy was going to impact the Earth in many ways drew the special attention of the audience.

Early on Sunday morning, the participants of the seminar assembled at the Basket Ball Stadium in the premises for a session of Surya Yog, which began around the time of sun rise.

He says that Surya means Sun and Yog is to merge. Surya Yog means to merge with the sun and become one. Using the sun and its vast cosmic energies one can change, arrange, reduce, remove, balance and organise the chemical, bio-electric and bio-magnetic powers in one’s body.

There were several stalls at the conference on Siddha medicine.
