Nail the perfect manicure

Here is the best way to take care while doing their manicure.
Nail the perfect manicure

Few things are as satisfying as getting a good manicure. And few things are as dissatisfying as getting one that fades into the sunset within a day or two. Sometimes it’s the quality of the nail polish or the many household chores that you do that is to blame. But mostly it’s because you are not looking after your ‘done’ nails the way you should do. Here are some to-dos/not-to-dos to keep in mind if you want to nail the perfect manicure.

Rule No. 1: Do not use your nails as tools

This one is a tough not-to-do. I mean, who wants to get up and look for a paperknife or scissors when your nails are right there with you to tear open a letter, unfasten a key from a ring or open a cola can? Well, you do or should do, if you want to save your manicure and not break your nails. If a break does occur, remember not to gnaw at the uneven edge. That will just damage the nail further. Instead, get up and get a nail file. Hold it just under the nail and run it across in one direction, beginning at the outside edge and pulling towards the centre. Repeat.

Rule No. 2: Remember to moisturise

This is another sin many of us are guilty of. We wouldn’t dream of washing our faces over and over again, without slathering on some creme or moisturiser later, but we do it all the time to our hands—ignore their moisturising needs, I mean. There’s no point in getting a manicure when the skin on the hands is cracked and dry. Also, keeping the hands—and nails—always moisturised prevents hangnails, cracking and peeling, and the manicure looking perfect for much longer. So carry a hand cream around in your bag and use it often. And devote a few extra minutes to your digits at bedtime, massaging the cuticle area to stimulate blood circulation and help nail growth.

Rule No. 3: Keep touching up

To keep a manicure going, maintenance is key. At the time of the manicure, ensure that the manicurist applies a good quality topcoat to your nails after he/she has put on the polish of your choice. At home, reapply the topcoat every two-three days to keep the nails strong. Remember to paint on thin coats as too much could make the polish peel off.
