Planning a perfect trip is not enough. Wasting time packing and unpacking while digging out small essentials on the go is a no no.

Forget an important item and you’re scrambling to find the nearest store. Pack too much and you end up disorganised, burdened with heavy bags, and end up paying huge sums of money at airline counters.

All this could change if you’re organised and plan everything beforehand. Here are a  few things you should keep in mind while you’re packing:

Choose your luggage: Depending on whether you are planning a weekend trip, a week long excursion, a business tour or a two day back packing expedition, you need to decide how you will carry your luggage.

For a weekend getaway a backpack should suffice whereas for a weeklong business trip you could carry a suitcase with wheels.

Select wisely: If you always end up carrying more clothes than you actually require,  be wise while packing.

For instance if you’re going on a month long holiday, pack clothes which take up less space and are easy to wash and dry. For weekend getaways a pair of jeans are your best friend. They are comfortable and you don’t need to wash them everyday.

Another thing you should keep in mind while packing is the weather.

Be creative:  If you are travelling abroad, remember to carry extra hand bags for all the souvenirs you will be bringing back. Folding bags are easy to carry and come in handy in case of extra luggage.

Accessories: Try packing accessories which go along with multiple outfits, this way you save valuable space. Select shoes or heels which you can wear with anything.

Another nifty thing you can do is pack your rings and earrings in medicine cases, so you won’t have to scan through your luggage to find your jewellery. Avoid carrying  jewellery on  hikes and adventure trips.

Utilize nooks and crannies: Utilize every possible inch. Place items like camera and chargers in between clothes.

Wear all your bulky items there and back: Try wearing all your bulky clothes like boots, jackets and sweaters while you’re travelling. This way you so save a lot of space.
