Jaffer Sadiq was arrested by the ED on June 26 at the Tihar Jail in New Delhi, where he was lodged in judicial custody in a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) case.
While Appu Direct is not arraigned as an accused, a follow-up probe by ED has found evidence of the firm’s officials paying bribes to top officials of the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments.
ED’s probe shows that Sadiq started JSM Pictures, a partnership firm with his stepbrother Nagoor Kani and JSM Pictures (OPC) Pvt Ltd around 2021 which had six films under production.
The agency on Wednesday said that a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) it had filed on September 10 had been taken cognisance of by the court on October 18.
The central agency filed the chargesheet against a total of 12 persons, including Sadiq's wife and his brother, before the Principal Sessions Court here.
This includes 14 immovable properties, such as the JSM Residency Hotel and a luxurious bungalow, and seven high-end vehicles acquired through criminal activities, ED said.
