Division bench directs single judge to decide within two months on Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay’s plea challenging Banerjee’s appointment as Opposition leader.
TMC Rajya Sabha MP accused the dissident leaders of using the party's name, symbol and organisational designations to mislead party workers and supporters.
TMC MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay moved the court, challenging the rejection of his nomination for the post and the appointment of Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of Opposition by the Speaker.
Addressing the media after the announcement, Ritabrata Banerjee said two more TMC MLAs are expected to join his faction, raising the total number of legislators supporting him to 60.
The rebel camp also proposed a new leadership structure for the legislature party, naming Ritabrata Banerjee as its leader and Akhruzzaman as chief whip, according to sources.
