Rubio also gave no indication that the Trump administration will support opposition figures who have previously been hailed by Washington as the country's legitimate leaders.
Rubio said that Trump has brokered several peace deals, including the "very dangerous ones like India and Pakistan", and deserves "tremendous credit for reshaping America's foreign policy."
Trump's peace plan will also impose limits on the size of Ukraine's military, block the country from joining NATO, and require Ukraine to hold elections in 100 days.
"The Indians need to be commended. They’ve been very measured, cautious, and very professional in how they’re carrying out this investigation," said the US Secretary of State.
