Narayana said that 11 people from Vuyyuru and its surrounding villages were admitted to the hospital after suffering from diarrhoea, with only six belonging to the Vuyyuru municipality jurisdiction.
Twenty-one students were shifted to a sub-divisional hospital after their condition worsened, while parents alleged expired chhatua supplied to the hostel caused the illness.
Villagers claimed this was not an isolated incident, as pregnant women and other critically-ill patients also face immense hardship in reaching hospitals because of the lack of an all-weather road.
