Stray dog injured nearly 60 people, including a two-year-old girl, during a biting spree across Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh. The animal was later captured by municipal authorities.
Activists alleged that abandonment of pet dogs and community dogs has also increased, with some owners allegedly leaving animals on roads, believing the authorities will eventually take them away.
The stray dog attack began last Sunday morning, with the animal reportedly running from the Vanmala area of Thrikkaruva to Chanthamukku, attacking people on the way.
Local bodies target highways and public institutions for restriction zones while expanding sterilization centers to all 23 districts to curb the menace.
