Percussion artist Padmanabha Marar no more

Famous temple percussion artist Padmanabha Marar of Samooha Madam (Cheruvallil), Ramapuram, died of age-related illness on Wednesday late in the evening.

KOTTAYAM: Famous temple percussion artist Padmanabha Marar of Samooha Madam (Cheruvallil), Ramapuram, died of age-related illness on Wednesday late in the evening. He was 113. He was on rest at his residence for the past couple of years following age-related ailments. His funeral will be held on the house premises on Thursday at 3 pm.

Marar, who was born in 1905, started percussion performance at the age of eight and continued till the age of 110. He was facilitated with Gurupooja award by Sangeetha Nataka academy in 2014 taking into account his deep knowledge and expertise in temple percussion forms.Late Bhavani Amma is his wife and P Gopalakrishnan, Narayanan, Chandrasekharan are sons and Chandramathi Amma is his daughter.
