6 family members of Kunduli victim depose before panel

The incident had triggered state-wide outrage following which a Crime Branch probe was ordered.

KORAPUT: Six family members of Kunduli gang-rape victim, who had committed suicide, recorded their statements before the Commission of Inquiry, set up to probe the incident, at Semiliguda block office on Sunday.

The girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in uniform. The mother, brother, paternal and maternal uncles and the aunt of the victim deposed before Koraput District and Sessions Judge–cum–Commissioner Bidyut Kumar Mishra in the seventh phase of the hearing at Semiliguda.

On June 17, four persons, including Dr Akankhya Tripathy, District Child Protection official Rajashree Das, Live Foundation NGO worker Sujata Nayak and District Home Guard DSP Kishore Chandra Das had appeared before the commission. So far, 14 persons have deposed before the panel and recorded their statements in a phased manner.

On October 10 last year, the 14-year-old girl had alleged that she was raped by four men in uniform while she was on her way to Musaguda. She later committed suicide by hanging herself at her house on January 22 this year.

The incident had triggered state-wide outrage following which a Crime Branch probe was ordered.
A three-member panel, led by Mishra, formed to probe the incident, started hearing the case on May 13.
