The Narayani Sena members assembled at a guest house from where they were supposed to visit the Jalpesh Mandir, a famous temple in the North Bengal town.
Without naming the minister, TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge asked the government to clear its stand over the nationality of Pramanik.
The attack comes two days after Bora, referring to some media reports revealing Pramanik's alleged Bangladesh nationality, wrote to PM Modi.
BJP West Bengal general secretary Sayantan Basu advised the TMC to move the court on the issue.
The party stated that with the decreasing number of coronavirus cases in the state, conditions are conducive for conducting the bypolls with Covid appropriate protocols in place.
BJP did not do well in the recent Assembly polls. But around half of the 77 seats they won came from north Bengal and SC-dominated regions.
Pramanik said that they are quitting as MLAs as per the directive of the BJP leadership.
