Expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya, father of the prime accused in the murder of 19-year-old receptionist Ankita Bhandari, claimed that his son is innocent. "My son is a seedha sadha balak,and is only concerned about his work. I want justice for both my son Pulkit and the murdered girl." Meanwhile, amid massive protests, Ankita's last rituals were performed at NIT Ghat near Alakhnanda river in Srinagar.
A former Uttarakhand minister's son, who owns a resort, was arrested along with his two employees on September 23 for the murder of a 19-year-old woman receptionist. Pulkit Arya, the son of BJP leader Vinod Arya, has been named as the “main accused” in the case, the police said. The party has officially expelled both father and son duo from the party.
Bodies of two minor Dalit sisters aged 17 and 15 were found hanging from a tree in Nighasan area of Lakhimpur Kheri district of UP on Sept 14 evening. A local resident spotted the bodies of the sisters in a sugarcane field, which is around half-a-km from their house. As the news spread, angry locals staged a protest and also blocked a road. The autopsy was conducted by a panel of three doctors in the presence of the victim's family. According to the autopsy report, the girls were raped and strangulated to death.
All the 11 convicts serving life sentences for the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case in 2002, during the Gujarat riots, walked free from the Godhra sub-jail on August 16 after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy. The release of the convicts came as a shock to many. A 35-year-old man, who came to Kerala from the UAE earlier this month, has tested positive for #monkeypox, making him the third case of the #virus from the country as well as the state.
