The leaders of the parties and the social groups met in Jammu on Monday and decided to agitate against the Delimitation Commission report.
The alliance, which comprises six parties, was formed in October 2020 to fight for restoration of J&K’s special status.
A senior PDP leader said after going through draft proposals of the Delimitation Commission, it has become more important for the Gupkar allies to jointly contest in J&K.
Gupkar Alliance spokesperson Yousuf Tarigami, with PDP chief Mehboboa Mufti and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah, was placed under house arrest.
The delimitation exercise is being carried out under the 2011 census according to which Kashmir had a population of 6,888,475 (56.28%), while Jammu region had 5,350,811 (43.71%).
Gupkar Alliance spokesman and CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami told reporters after a meeting of the alliance leaders in Jammu.
It is the first meeting convened by the Gupkar Alliance in Jammu after the formation of the Gupkar Alliance in October last year to fight for the restoration of Article 370.
“The incident calls for a time-bound judicial probe so that facts are unraveled and brought in the public domain,” reads the letter written by the head of the alliance Farooq Abdullah
Javed had taken over as the JKPM president last year after its founding president Shah Faesal, who is a former IAS officer, quit politics following his release from detention.
They also said that 'it is most unfortunate that judicial challenges against abrogation of Article 370 continue to remain pending before Supreme Court even after two years'.
The participants will be from the length and breadth of the Valley and it is expected that around 150-200 leaders will take part in the meeting.
