The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government had approved the proposal to add 1,000 low-floor AC electric buses to the national capital’s public transport fleet.
The buses were launched from Miyapur depot here and will ferry people to the Hyderabad International Airport from various locations in the city.
Manufactured by Olectra-BYD, a leading Asian company, the 40 ‘EeBuzz K9’ series will be inaugurated after a wait of more than 3 months.
The petitioner had alleged that changes were made in the terms and conditions of the tendering process to avoid competition and favour certain parties by buying their vehicles at much higher prices.
The operating charge for a diesel AC bus is Rs 31 for 1 km distance whereas an e-bus will cost only Rs 4 per km.
The High Court, the other day, asked the department on the number of electric buses to be plied at Sabarimala as the place is an ecologically sensitive zone.
