The IMD said it is for the first time since 2021 that monsoon has arrived in July; The monsoon had reached Delhi on June 29 in 2025, June 28 in 2024, June 25 in 2023 and June 30 in 2022.
El Nino leads to less rainfall in India and its emergence could be one of the reasons why the country this year is expected to receive below-normal rainfall during the monsoon season.
The system currently stretches from eastern Uttar Pradesh through parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha to north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
The monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Mahe, parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and several areas of the Bay of Bengal.
