THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is turning out to be the liquidator of the CPM. He was addressing a public meeting here on Tuesday before embarking on a one-day fast to protest the alleged police atrocities towards Ayyappa devotees.

Pillai said the police brutality (under its rule) and the Chief Minister’s anti-Sabarimala stance is fast turning the CPM into an unpopular party. This will soon lead to the party’s liquidation and Pinarayi will preside over it, he said.

Pillai said the CPM and the Chief Minister have been trying to crush devotees’ peaceful agitation with brutal police force.

Referring to the Supreme Court verdict that allowed women of all ages entry to Sabarimala, Pillai said there was no court verdict that is above public interest. “In a democracy, people are the last word and their aims and aspirations have to be considered,” he said.

An advocate by profession, Pillai said court judgement can be criticised and criticisms are for the betterment of the society. During Emergency, the dissent note of Justice H R Khanna was the law of the country. Similarly, the dissent note of Justice Indu Malhotra in the five-member Constitutional bench can’t be taken lightly, he said.

Along with Pillai’s one-day fast, the BJP carried out simultaneous in all the district headquarters across the state on Tuesday.

Pillai said several leaders from across the political spectrum in the state will join the BJP in coming days. “There will be quite a few surprises,” he added.

On November 2, the party will undertake a pledge across the 140 Assembly constituencies for the protection of Ayyappa dharma. On November 3 the party will open a new agitation front in Kottayam, he said.

Pillai said on BJP will extend its support to devotees who plan to oppose the entry of women to Sabarimala when the temple opens for Karthika pooja on November 5.

Pillai said the NDA will be undertaking a ‘Sabarimala Samrakshana Rath Yatra’ from Madhur temple in Kasargod to Pathanamthitta. The yatra, from November 8 to13, will be led by Pillai and BDJS leader Tushar Vellappally.

O Rajagopal MLA inaugurated Pillai’s one-day fast. Party district president S Suresh presided over the function.
