THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/MALAPPURAM: A day after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan disowned P V Anvar, the CPM too went public with its displeasure at the LDF-backed legislator from Nilambur. The CPM state secretariat on Sunday criticised the allegations Anvar levelled in the media and asked him to desist from moves that weaken the party.
Soon after the CPM reprimand, Anvar softened his stance and announced he would refrain from making public statements “temporarily”.
In a statement, the state secretariat reminded Anvar that he was an LDF-backed independent MLA and a member of the CPM parliamentary party. It noted that Anvar had levelled allegations on various issues, which the government and the party were looking into. “At this juncture, levelling allegations repeatedly against the government and the party through the media cannot be accepted,” said the statement.
The secretariat noted that Anvar’s stance had turned a weapon to let enemies attack the government and the party. “The secretariat urges the MLA to correct its stance and desist from moves to weaken the party,” it said.
Politburo member A Vijayaraghavan too said Anwar had weakened the government and the party, and added that the MLA’s statements had given enemies of the party a chance to rejoice. He said with the CM’s clarification, the matter has come to an end.
Senior CPM leader P Jayarajan shared the secretariat’s statement on his social media handle. Interestingly, Jayarajan’s endorsement of the party stance came amid allegations that he was tacitly supportive of Anvar’s tirade.
Announcing his decision of refraining from making public comments, Anvar, who had previously expressed loss of faith in the probe into his complaints, did a U-turn later in the day and said the government had taken prompt action on his complaints, and the CPM had assured him it will seriously address his concerns.
Anvar apologises to party comrades, says fully aware his actions caused pain
“I have raised several complaints, including the controversial cop’s visit to RSS leaders, YouTubers spreading communalism, Thrissur Pooram disruption and gold smuggling. I am confident the party will conduct a fair investigation and take appropriate action, setting aside any biases. Therefore, I am temporarily ending any public statements on this issue from this moment. I have complete faith in my party and am certain justice will be delivered,” Anvar said.
He also said CPM state secretary M V Govindan had assured him of proper action in response to his complaints. However, he expressed disappointment over the lack of action against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar.
“The government took several urgent actions based on my complaints. However, I remain opposed to the fact that individuals facing serious allegations continue to hold their positions,” he said.
Anvar also apologised to party members for deviating from CPM’s conventional methods (read making public statements). Pinarayi had on Saturday criticised Anvar, saying the MLA’s Congress background and habit of making public statements to stir controversy did not align with the ways of the CPM.
Anvar said he has approached those matters with utmost seriousness, as they impact both comrades and the public. “I had to take unconventional paths, and am fully aware this caused pain to my dear party comrades. Unfortunately, I had no other options, and for that, I offer my sincere apologies to each one of you,” he said.
