VIRUDHNAGAR: Three rooms were gutted down in a fire accident at a fireworks unit near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district on Saturday morning.

As the incident took place in the early hours, no one was working thus resulting in no casualties.

The unit, owned by Rajaram of Kathanatar Street, is located in Naranapuram Pudur near Sivakasi. The raw materials for the fireworks unit stocked at a room where the fire reportedly broke out around 6.30 am.

Two other nearby rooms were damaged in the fire accident. Upon alerting, the police and sleuths from the fire and rescue service rushed to spot and controlled the fire. Officials launched an investigation.

"Initial enquiry reveals that the explosion at Narayanapuram unit could have taken place due to a chemical reaction of the remnants of the explosive substances that were not disposed off properly," the police official claimed.

This incident happened in the wake of an accident at a unit taking the lives of ten persons in Sengamalapatti last Thursday.
