BENGALURU: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise carried out in Greater Bengaluru Authority limits has recognised only 56,99,660 ( 54.87%) voter as against the 46,88,703 (45.13%) voters from the June 16 Draft list containing 1,03,88,363 voters published by District Election Officer (DEO) and Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner.
As per M Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner GBA, the 45.13% voters have been listed under, Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate (ASDD) category.
Earlier when the GBA published the final electoral list on April 18, Bengaluru had 88,95,361 voters in the ward-wise voter list of five urban corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), however, with the inception of SIR, the list is treated as obsolete.
Addressing the media after the publication of the draft electoral roll as part of the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls–2026, he said, "As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the draft electoral roll was published on Monday. It contains 27,69,866 male voters, 29,29,092 female voters and 702 other and transgender voters, taking the total to 56,99,660 voters."
Following the publication of the draft electoral roll, claims and objections can be filed from Monday (August- 24) to until September 23.
The process of issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections will be carried out between August 24 and October 22.
The final electoral roll will be published on October 27, 2026, he stated. "The draft electoral roll has been published at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Ward Offices across all 28 Assembly Constituencies under the jurisdiction of the District Election Officer, Bengaluru. Citizens have been provided an opportunity to verify the electoral roll, he said.
Citizens can also verify their names in the electoral roll through the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, and the official Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) website, he informed.
The GBA Chief Commissioner also informed that Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices in 24,05,044 cases and take steps to conduct enquiries. "In eligible cases requiring verification, the concerned voters will be allowed to appear for the enquiry on the specified date and time and produce the necessary documents to retain their names in the electoral roll.
The notice will be personally served on the concerned voter or on a family member/other person residing at the voter’s address. Their signature will be obtained as acknowledgement of receipt of the notice." informed Maheshwar Rao
The presence of the voter during the enquiry is mandatory, and voters will be required to sign the attendance register.
