TVK chief Vijay on Thursday alleged a joint machination and conspiracy behind the tragic stampede in Karur as well as in the release of his final film Jananayagan, and said he too wanted justice in the Karur incident.
The stampede left 41 people dead and several injured at a rally addressed by the actor-politician on September 27, 2025.
Addressing an election rally after filing his nomination papers from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency, Vijay said, as many have been insisting, the Karur incident was "a joint machination."
"I, who have come to ask justice for you, also want justice," the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief said, and also claimed a conspiracy over the release of his last film Jananayagan.
Vijay also urged voters to reject both the DMK and BJP as being "on the same page" and give his party a chance, while alleging in Tiruchirappalli that the DMK had failed to fulfil its 2021 poll promises and was now making fresh "false" pledges.
"This evil force, DMK, which cannot even ensure your safety or provide basic facilities, what should we do with it? Shall we throw it out?" the TVK said, adding that he would not make false promises like chief minister MK Stalin.
Vijay also said he would "not lie or deceive" voters and asserted that the electoral contest was only between his party and the DMK. "This election should lead to a 'whistle revolution'," he said.
Meanwhile, Vijay also flayed both the Centre and the state government over the LPG cylinder shortage and said both governments could have averted the crisis had they planned ahead and regulated supplies.
"Stalin air dashes to Delhi if there's a raid or some issue in the family. Has he rushed to the national capital to resolve the LPG cylinder crisis," Vijay asked, adding that the lack of preparedness had led to a shortage of gas cylinders, forcing the closure of small eateries and even hotels.
"This has caused hardship and losses to many. Had they been vigilant and taken precaution, then the crisis would not have escalated. Both are responsible for this," he said.
In a lighter vein, Vijay remarked that if one asked "Stalin sir" about the crisis, he would say it had no connection whatsoever. "But if there's a raid or problem in his house, then he would fly to Delhi," he said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Notably, Vijay is contesting from two seats — Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East — against DMK's incumbent MLAs RD Sekar and Inigo S Irudayaraj, respectively.
