India on Sunday reported 88,600 fresh cases in a day as the cases tally mounted to 59.9 lakhs. 1124 deaths were also recored in the last 24 hours.

COVID case tally stands at 5,992,533 including 9,56,402 active cases, 49,41,628 cured/discharged/migrated & 94,503 deaths, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare's latest update said.

Meanwhile, Delhi reported 46 COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, the highest in over 70 days, taking the toll to 5,193, while 3,372 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 2,67,822, authorities said.

This is the highest number of deaths reported in a day since July 16, when the national capital recorded 58 fatalities.

Odisha reports 3,922 new cases; 14 fresh fatalities

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,09,374 on Sunday as 3,922 more people tested positive for the infection, while 14 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 797, a health official said. As many as 2,309 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 1,613 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, he said.

173 new COVID-19 cases in Chandigarh; two more die

Two more COVID-19 deaths were reported in Chandigarh on Sunday, raising the toll to 147, while 173 new cases pushed the infection count to 11,553. There are now 2,303 active cases in the city. As many as 166 patients were discharged after they recovered from the infection. A total of 9,103 people have been cured so far.

Child labour cases increase in Delhi during COVID-19 pandemic

The Delhi Police and the DCPCR have seen an increase in cases of child labour during the COVID-19 pandemic which along with the lockdown has severely hit the income of families, giving an opportunity for traffickers to target the poor and persuade them to send their children to work, officials said.

COVID-19 case tally 12,571, recovery rate over 87 per cent in Noida

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded 204 new COVID-19 patients on Sunday that pushed the district's case tally to 12,571, official data showed. The number of active cases came down to 1,570 from 1,637 on Saturday and 1,723 on Friday, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

Punjab records 50 more deaths; 1,458 new cases

Fifty more fatalities pushed the death toll due to COVID-19 to 3,238 in Punjab while 1,458 more cases took the infection tally to 1,10,106 on Sunday. Nine deaths were reported from Ludhiana, eight from Jalandhar, six from Patiala, five each from Amritsar and Pathankot and three each from Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar, as per the state health department's medical bulletin.

Chhattisgarh to add over 5,300 oxygen-supported beds in hospitals

Due to the rising coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, the health department has decided to arrange 5,313 more beds equipped with oxygen facility in designated hospitals and COVID Care centres across the state, an official said.

Former Union minister and senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has said that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and has quarantined herself. She requested people who came in her contact to get themselves tested and follow protocols.

205 new COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra's Amravati

For the third consecutive day on Sunday, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients was more than new infection cases in Amravati district of Maharashtra, officials said. While 285 patients went home after recovery, 205 new cases were reported during the day, they said. The number of recovered patients now stands at 10,033, the official said.

Army sprays disinfectants in areas near LoC in Poonch

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Army sprayed disinfectants at community facilities, public transport, hospitals and residential areas in Daradulian and Jhullas villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, a defence spokesperson said.

Indians far from achieving herd immunity

  • The ICMR's second sero-survey shows that Indian population is still far from achieving herd immunity against coronavirus infection, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday while underlining the need for following COVID appropriate behaviour.

  • He also stressed that masks be worn even in places of worship.

  • During an interaction with his social media followers, the minister said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is actively researching on reports of COVID-19 reinfection and although the number of such cases is negligible at this moment, the government is fully seized of the importance of the matter, the health ministry said in a statement.

  • He cautioned that the sero-survey report should not create a sense of complacency among the people.

    The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Sunday said it has collected a fine of over Rs 5. 5 crore so far from violators, including citizens and commercial establishments, of COVID-19 norms. The civic body also rued that despite conducting a massive regulatory drive, people are still not following guidelines.

    COVID-19 patient commits suicide in Aurangabad

  • A 42-year-old COVID-19 patient allegedly committed suicide in Government Medical College and Hospital in Aurangabad on Sunday morning, police said.

  • The Paithan resident, who was admitted in GMCH on September 25 and had been shifted to the ICU on September 27, jumped off the window beside his bed around 7 am after asking for water and a paan from attendants in the ward, GMCH officials said.

  • He jumped from the fourth floor, GMCH Dean Kanan Yelikar said.

    • Tripura reports 302 fresh cases

  • At least 302 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Sunday, pushing the tally to 24,728, a health department official said.

  • The death toll rose to 267 with two more people succumbing to the infection, he said.

  • West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 146 of the 267 COVID-19 deaths.

  • Altogether 499 people were discharged on Saturday from G B Pant hospital, the main referral facility in the northeastern state for COVID-19 patients.

  • Tripura currently has 6,069 active coronavirus cases, while 18,369 people have recovered from the disease.

    Delhi govt provided over 60,000 oximeters

  • The Delhi government has so far provided 60,042 oximeters to home quarantined COVID-19 patients in the city to help them check their oxygen levels, according to official figures.

  • The Arvind Kejriwal government had in June announced to provide oximeters to the COVID-19 patients in home isolation with no symptoms or mild symptoms of the disease and facing breathing problems due to low oxygen levels.

    30 fresh cases in Mizoram

    At least 30 people, including 12 Border Security Force personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 1,865, a statement said on Sunday. Of the fresh cases, 23 were reported from Aizawl district, four from Serchhip, two from Champhai and one from Mamit, it said.

  • The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,774 on Sunday as 15 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

  • Six new patients have travel history, while nine fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.

  • Twenty-three more people have been cured of the disease, the official said.

  • The Union territory now has 171 active coronavirus cases, while 3,551 people have been cured of the disease and 52 patients have succumbed to the infection so far, he said.

    Over 36,000 COVID-19 cases, 128 deaths in central police forces: Data

    The total number of coronavirus cases in central police forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs have gone over 36,000 with 128 personnel succumbing to the pandemic, according to a latest data.

    The cases pertain to the seven forces of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

    As per the latest data accessed by PTI, these forces have recorded over 36,000 COVID-19 cases till now, out of which, 6,646 are active while rest of the personnel have recovered. (READ FULL REPORT HERE)

    BJP women's wing president in West Bengal Agnimitra Paul said on Sunday she has been diagnosed with COVID-19, and requested people who came in touch with her recently to get themselves tested.

    Paul, who is also a well-known fashion designer, had been touring districts regularly to lead street protests and undertake campaigns against the ruling TMC.

    A case was filed against Prahallad Bisi, a class 7 dropout, after the officials of the Drug Control Administration and police raided his house in Rushuda village in the Bheden Police station area on Friday, they said.

    Surge in Delhi COVID-19 cases seems to have plateaued: Satyendar Jain

    Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain Saturday said the surge in COVID-19 cases recorded in September "seems to have plateaued" and should show a "rapid fall".

    The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the ICC headquarters in Dubai as few of its staffers have tested positive for the dreaded virus and are in mandatory isolation as per the United Arab Emirates' health protocols.

    There is a possibility that in order to follow the strict health safety protocols, the ICC headquarters would remain closed for a few days and the staff would work from home, as the entire premises is being sanitised for operations to restart.

    This is the highest number of deaths reported in a day since July 16, when the city recorded 58 fatalities.

    The capital reported 3,827 new cases on Friday, 3,834 on Thursday, 3,714 on Wednesday and 3,816 on Tuesday.
