A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was hearing the TN government’s appeal seeking directions to Karnataka for promptly releasing its due share of water.
On Monday, TN’s counsel senior advocate CS Vaidyanathan told the apex court that Karnataka was releasing water for irrigation within the state but it was not reaching TN.
While the Tamil Nadu government claimed that the CWMA's direction was not being complied with, the Karnataka government said the picture being projected was "extremely incorrect".
The direction was issued during the 54th CWMA meeting, which was attended by representatives of Cauvery basin states, including Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
CWMA's decision to uphold Karnataka's release of 3,500 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days drew opposition from farmer groups and Kannada film fraternity.
