The scheme will be available to JioPhone users who have not been able to recharge due to the ongoing pandemic, the company said in a statement.
Vodafone recorded download speed of 7 Mbps in April, according to Trai's data updated on May 11.
The agency pointed out that there is a close contest between the top two telcos, when one goes by active subscriber base with Jio’s share at 33.7 per cent and Airtel’s at 33.6 per cent.
DoT explained that the harmonisation exercise facilitates more efficient utilisation of spectrum held by operators, leading to improved quality of service for consumers.
According to a statement from the companies, the agreement will see Jio acquire a portion of spectrum in the 800 MHz band in these circles at an aggregate value of Rs 1,497 crore.
This marks the first such deal between the two telecom giants.
While Jio still holds the lead in terms of gross subscribers, its low proportion of active subscribers has left it behind Airtel on the latter front.
Among those who are active in the space, the Tata group and Airtel both have a greater focus toward larger enterprises, with the former not present in the MSME space at all.

Telecom spectrum was auctioned after a gap of five years, but it didn’t fetch a fortune.
Jio walked away with the lion’s share of winning bids worth Rs 57,122 crore. The expensive 700 MHz and 2,500 MHz band did not attract any buyers.
Industry sources said that the auction entailing seven frequency bands for mobile services - 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands - is currently underway.
TRAI data shows that Jio increased its share of the revenue market to 39.3 per cent during the quarter, against 38.3 per cent recorded in the previous quarter.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) saw no real change in fortunes, continuing to lose subscribers at a rapid clip (56.9 lakh) during this month too.
