The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been conducting Swachh Survekshan since 2016.
The competition takes into consideration nine areas of cleanliness and hygiene.
Houses of people giving segregated waste are being stickered with green colour, thanking them for contributing towards improving the city’s overall waste disposal system and sanitation.
The score went down because of a few activities by the civic body. As far as Swachh Survekshan ranking 2022 is concerned, the parameters are different from that of 2021, sources added.
Uttarakhand has come on top of Himalayan states in ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’. The state has also secured fourth rank among states with less than 100 urban local bodies.
Some deficiencies which the Coimbatore corporation is trying to address include damaged bins, insufficient waste collection system, among others.
While Vijayawada was ranked the third cleanest Indian city, Greater Visakhapatnam grabbed the ninth slot.

The ministry said in the latest nationwide cleanliness survey, 4,320 cities were covered in 28 days, adding that over 4.2 core people had given their feedback.
CDMA Commissioner N Satyanarayana said that a total of 12 awards were announced for Telangana.
The survey's scope was expanded to cover 100 per cent wards for sampling, as compared to 40 per cent in the previous years.
