Sundargarh chief district agriculture officer (CDA) Birendra Behera informed that 16 of the 17 blocks received deficit rainfall. At least 11 blocks are the worst affected.

Sources said a target has been fixed to raise paddy over 1,24,600 hectare of agricultural land in the district. Following the showers, preparations have begun for the kharif crop.

A senior agriculture department official said that the monsoon is yet to pick up steam. So the current data is non-conclusive. The moment monsoon spreads, the situation will improve drastically.
