COVID-19 HIGHLIGHTS | Delhi records 7,830 new cases; 83 fatalities take toll to 7,143

Delhi recorded the highest single-day spike here till date, taking the infection tally in the national capital to over 4.5 lakh even as 83 new fatalities pushed the toll to 7,143, authorities said.

India on Tuesday added 38,074 fresh coronavirus cases to its tally and 448 deaths in last 24 hours as per data shared by Union Health Ministry.

With this addition, India's total cases surges to 85,91,731 while toll reaches 1,27,059.

Total active cases in India are 5,05,265 after a decrease of 4,408 in the last 24 hours while total recovered cases are 79,59,406 with 42,033 new discharges.

Meanwhile, Delhi has become the largest contributor of fresh COVID-19 cases in India, surpassing Maharashtra and Kerala.

Single-day recoveries outnumber new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland

Nagaland reported more COVID-19 recoveries than fresh cases, as 82 patients recuperated from the disease and 33 more people tested positive for the infection, an official said. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state has improved to an all-time high at 89.18 per cent and 8,505 people were cured of the disease so far, health department director Dr Denis Hangsing said.

12 deaths, 611 new virus cases in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh reported 12 more COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the state to 391, while 611 new cases pushed the infection count to 26,809. Seven deaths were reported from Shimla, two from Kullu and one each from Kangra, Kinnaur and Bilaspur, according to a Health Department data.

Assam reports 5 more COVID-19 deaths, 271 new cases

Five more COVID-19 patients died in Assam on Tuesday, taking the toll to 952, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. The state also reported 271 new cases, following which the tally rose to 2,09,388, he said.

India second in world in COVID-19 testing; positivity rate down at 7.18 per cent: Government

India has conducted the second highest number of tests for detection of COVID-19 cases in the world at 11.96 crore with rapid antigen tests comprising 49 per cent and RT-PCR 46 per cent of the total tests done till Tuesday morning, the Union health ministry said.

1,679 new coronavirus cases, 18 deaths in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 count reached 2,04,202 on Tuesday after 1,679 people tested positive for the infection, while the number of people who have recovered reached 1,80,995, an official said. With 18 more deaths, the fatality count climbed to 2,482, he said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said the next three months would be "very challenging" in terms of the coronavirus outbreak due to winter, festive season and pollution. Mumbai reports 535 COVID-19 cases, 1,057 recoveries; 19 die

Mumbai reported 535 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 2,65,677, the city civic body said. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) updated data, the death toll in Mumbai increased to 10,481 with 19 fatalities getting recorded in the last 24 hours.

2,546 fresh coronavirus cases, 16 more deaths in Haryana

Haryana on Tuesday reported 2,546 fresh novel coronavirus cases taking the caseload in the state to 1,87,777 while 16 more fatalities took the COVID-19 related death toll to 1,935, a health bulletin stated.

Madhya Pradesh 900 new COVID-19 cases, eight deaths; 793 recover

Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 900 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 1,79,068, while eight fatalities pushed the death toll to 3,042, health officials said. 793 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the state's overall recovery count to 1,67,877, they added.

Karnataka adds 2,362 new COVID-19 cases, 20 deaths

Karnataka has reported 2,362 new COVID-19 cases and 20 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 8,51,212 and the death toll to 11,430, the Health department said on Tuesday.

The day also saw 4,215 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of the 2,362 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 1,176 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

After nearly eight months, Chennai's Vandalur zoo reopens on November 11

The Arignar Anna Zoological Park, which was closed to public visitors from March due to the coronavirus pandemic, is all set to reopen from Wednesday. The Vandalur Zoo is one of the largest zoological gardens in South and Southeast Asia attracting 20 lakh visitors annually.

The decision to reopen was based on the announcement made by the Chief Minister and as per the standard operating procedures issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.     With the national capital witnessing a fresh surge in cases of COVID-19, nearly 24,000 calls have been made by people to access Delhi government-run ambulance services during emergency situations in the last two weeks in the city, according to official data.

    Indian Institute of Science claimed on Tuesday that researchers led by Raghavan Varadarajan, Professor at IISc's Molecular Biophysics Unit, are working towards developing effective vaccine strategies against two viruses: SARS-CoV-2 and HIV.

    In two studies published in the past week, they reported the design of a 'heat-tolerant' COVID-19 vaccine candidate and a rapid method to identify specific regions on the HIV envelope protein that are targeted by antibodies, which can help design effective vaccines, an IISc press release said.     Puducherry posted two more deaths due to COVID-19 on Tuesday while the case tally touched 36,000 with 102 new additions.

    Daily new COVID-19 infections remain below 50,000 mark for third day in a row

    For the third day in a row, daily new coronavirus infections in the country settled below the 50,000-mark, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

    The ministry said the figures assume significance in the context of some countries reporting as high as one lakh cases per day since the last 3-4 days.

    Seventy-two per cent of new infections reported in a span of 24 hours are from 10 states and UTs with Delhi continuing to report the highest daily new cases at 5,983, which is less than its previous day tally of 7,745 new cases, the ministry said.

    India's active COVID-19 case count falls below 6 per cent of total cases: Health Ministry

    India's COVID-19 active cases have fallen below 6 per cent of the total cases, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. In a tweet, the Health Ministry said, "Demonstrating a landmark achievement, India's active cases have fallen below 6 per cent of the total Cases. The recovered cases have leaped past 92 per centof the cumulative cases."

    Eight districts of Andhra Pradesh record less than 100 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

    As eight of the 13 districts reported less than 100 new COVID-19 infections, Andhra Pradesh on Monday saw its aggregate grow by 1,392. East Godavari recorded the highest 341 cases, followed by 243 in West Godavari; the one-day spike in Kurnool district was the lowest 36.

    COVID-19 home isolation cases in Delhi increases by 50 per cent

    Experts have flagged that crowding due to festive season and rise in pollution level and laxity in adhering to Covid-19 safety norms, among other factors, have caused the massive surge in daily cases in the last several days.
